After two of her children died, Joyce Mary was left raising four grandchildren… and was struggling to make ends meet. But since the start of her IGA business around 20 months ago, she can afford to pay for two children to attend local schools, while another attends Child of Hope school for free and the fourth child is still at home with her. She is extremely happy that she can look after them all, providing clothes for them, paying the rent, buying water and getting charcoal for fuel to cook.

Last night more than 20 huts were deliberately burnt in Namatala – families woke up with burning embers falling on their heads and were just able to escape with their lives.

Our current project to build a £19,000 Child Development Unit has received a boost with a much-welcome grant of £9,450 – so we’re halfway to providing even greater support to the children of Namatala and their families!

A donation sent for a sponsored child’s birthday went a lot further than that… and resulted in a lasting, wide-reaching benefit for the whole family!

Our school has reached a major milestone… with the first children finishing their primary education! These are the very first pupils that started with Child of Hope, when we ran a small nursery class from a borrowed church hall.

We had a very colourful and fun party at the school on December 18 – along with our 610 kids and a parent/guardian and sibling each, there were local community leaders etc, and the total number of people fed exceeded 1,400!

We’ve had an amazing number of donations in our Christmas party appeal, thank you so much everyone who has joined in and made the party possible. We have reached our target and the event will take place on December 18. The generosity and support of our friends is hugely encouraging!
