Afuwa, one of our P7 pupils at Child of Hope, has faced challenges with walking since she was a baby, relying on crutches to get around. But thanks to a generous donor, she has just undergone a transformative operation to help her walk more easily.

Surgeons have placed artificial tendons in both legs, allowing her feet to rest flat on the ground. She spent three days in hospital, with our school nurse by her side, and had both legs in plaster for four weeks. We have been giving her extra nutrition during this time to help her recover and build strength.

There’s still a long road ahead with exercises and physiotherapy, but Afuwa is full of hope. She’s overjoyed to have had the surgery, saying it has changed her life - she is already able to stand with just one crutch instead of two (right picture)!

We can’t wait to see the difference it makes for her in the future.
