Ugandan schools will end the current term two weeks early on November 25 because of the deadly Ebola outbreak in Uganda – so students who have already missed time due to Covid will now lose another two weeks of schooling.

Currently, there are no confirmed Ebola cases in Mbale and no extra precautions have been put in place. However, there have been 23 confirmed Ebola cases in children in Uganda and eight of those children have died. So you can see the mortality rate is very high.

Schools are expected to decontaminate their sites ready for when the students return on the 30th January 2023.

Ebola was found in Mubende, Uganda in September to great concern because there is no vaccine for this strain of the virus. It has since spread to the capital, Kampala.

To date, 53 people have died of Ebola in Uganda and 135 have been infected since September.
