Holiday time isn’t all play for 11 year-old Child of Hope pupil, Francis, because he loves to help his elderly grandmother at her home-based grinding mill.
Young Francis lives with his nan in the Namatala slum and is looking forward to getting back to school once the new school year commences in February.
The grinding mill saves community members a lot of travelling to the local industrial area in Mbale, where the larger grinding mills are located. It handles millet, sorghum, maize, and dried cassava chips that are ground into flour with the electrically-powered mill.
