When the children returned to school in January, the Ugandan Ministry of Education declared an automatic promotion of children to the next classes, even though they had only worked on the previous year’s curriculum for two months.

Recent assessments have identified the slower learners who are now being given extra time to make up lost ground. In Primary 7, the final year of primary education, this is even including Saturday classes to allow for additional lessons.
