One good thing about homes being very close together in the Namatala slum is that kids aren’t prevented from playing with their close neighbours during Uganda’s current lockdown.

Although they are forbidden to move away from their homes, most of our children manage to play together with others living very close by. Which is a lot better than being restricted to staying indoors, as in most developed countries. So, once they have finished helping with household chores, they are free to enjoy playing games like ludo, draughts, cards, and their own local games.

Anna, Gloria and Joy (pictured) say that are missing school and are worried that, if they do not get back soon, their ability to advance to the next class may be delayed for a year. The only consolation is that this would apply to the whole country, not just Child of Hope pupils.
