Every year, the classes at Kingfisher CE Academy in Swindon each read a book by a different author, and then take that author's name as their class name. It's a lovely tradition, and one they've kindly shared with us.
When our education advisor Lucy visits Kingfisher, they always send her off with a copy of each of the class books. This time there was more besides: a big sheet of card covered in handprints from the UK classes, and lots of pictures drawn by the pupils. That's quite a lot to fit in a suitcase, but she managed. (And at least it wasn't a trombone this time!)
Back in Mbale, our children and teachers were delighted. There was plenty of pointing, comparing and matching their own hands against the UK ones. There's also a "meet the teacher" sheet, with a photo of the Kingfisher teachers and a little about them, so we can put a face to the name.
Thank you, Kingfisher, for such a thoughtful gift. It's amazing what a few books, some paint and a lot of little hands can do for a friendship across the miles.
