Following her dream of becoming a tailor, Child of Hope student Sharon transferred – after four years of secondary school – to the polytechnic school for vocational skills. She has now completed the two-year course in tailoring.
The first in her family to receive any secondary education, Sharon was eager to become self-sufficient and able to contribute to the family’s income.
Her dedication was evident in the long distance she walked every day to and from school. Sharon is now consolidating her sewing skills by working part-time with Jennifer, one of the IGA mothers, who has a renowned tailoring shop in Namatala.
Jennifer recognized Sharon as a fast learner when she completed an internship last year with her. By working together, Sharon will develop the skills to manage a business of her own. She shows great promise, her work already being much appreciated by customers of Jennifer’s shop.
