After six months without rain, leading to water shortages across Mbale, the people of Namatala are very happy that the rain has returned.

During the drought, they were forced to walk long distances to neighbouring villages in search of water and IGA parents’ recently-planted crops had begun to wither from lack of water.

At Child of Hope School, the rainwater harvesting system, comprising three tanks holding up to fifteen thousand litres – along with a new well – will help to gather enough water during this rainy season to ensure an adequate supply of water next dry season. This system cuts school water bills by almost half, and next dry season the local community will have access to clean, safe water, courtesy of Child of Hope.

Soon we hope to add a solar-powered pump, because – as you can see in the last video – it’s hard work pulling up water by hand!
