Pius (one of our primary 5 pupils) lives with his older sister in a single-roomed home in Namatala slum. He readily helps her with the family chores when he can. This is him at the local river, where he goes to wash his clothes and then to bathe.

With water shortages in the slum, Pius and his sister cannot afford to buy water from the few commercial taps available, which in any case often run dry. He lives about a mile and a half from the river and walks there regularly to wash. Child of Hope has given a great deal of training to its families about not drinking river water because of the risk of disease, but it remains a useful source of water for other needs.

Pius is one of the Child of Hope children who does not yet have a personal sponsor. If you would like to sponsor a child for just £15 a month, please click here.
