All last week our older children attended a special workshop to help teach them various life skills, including vital understanding regarding sexual issues.
It was delivered by Christian charity Wise Choices for Life, which has the goal of reaching as many young people as possible around Uganda with the message that controlling their sexual drives will give them some control over their circumstances in life.
Its workshops provide correct knowledge on how to use their bodies responsibly and encourage participants to acquire skills in critical thinking, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, coping, and self-management. Training is holistic, focussing on the practical, emotional and spiritual issues around the subject of sexuality and reproductive health – knowledge alone will not change behaviour, but when combined with practical life skills, it can lead to new attitudes which in turn lead to new behaviour and habits.
